The FBI is investigating a “targeted terror attack” in Boulder, Colorado – with reports of several victims.
FBI Director Kash Patel said: “Our agents and local law enforcement are on the scene already, and we will share updates as more information becomes available”.
Witnesses told US media a suspect had thrown petrol bombs at people doing a walk to remember Israeli hostages in Gaza.
A male suspect is in custody.
Local police said there were “several victims” and that part of a pedestrianised shopping area had been evacuated.
Police chief Steve Redfearn said the incident happened around 1.26pm local time and that initial reports were that “people were being set on fire”.
He said some had been taken to hospital and injuries ranged from “very serious” to “minor”.
“When we arrived we encountered multiple victims that were injured, with injuries consistent with burns,” Mr Redfearn told the media.
He said a suspect was pointed out to officers and was taken into custody without incident.
Mr Redfearn said the motive was unclear and that it was too early to say it was a “terror attack”.
In an earlier post on X, police said the attack reportedly happened at 13th and Pearl streets.
Boulder is a popular university city in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, just to the northwest of Denver.
